Celebrating the life of Linda Niamath, prolific children’s music composer

Linda Niamath, an Honorary Fellow of The Royal Conservatory, has passed away after a long illness.

Linda started composing music at the age five and is most known for her eleven albums of piano music. She also wrote for ballet and animated films. Linda had a keen interest in early childhood education and believed in the importance of introducing all young children to the joys of music making.

Young pianists around the world have been inspired by her colourful pieces with evocative titles like, Big Teddy, Little Teddy, March of the Terrible Trolls, Penguins, and Playful Puppy.

Linda Niamath was recognized by the Conservatory as an Honourary Fellow in 2018 for her lifelong dedication to music education.

Linda’s compositions have appeared in several editions of the RCM’s Celebration Series®.

Elaine Rusk, Vice President, Academics and Publishing, speaks highly of this prolific composer.

“Linda wrote colourful and creative pieces for students. She strove to capture their imagination and to inspire them to bring musical stories to life. She was a lovely lady who spent her life encouraging young musicians."

“She will be missed.”
