ARCT/LRCM

Diploma Requirements
The Associate Diploma (ARCT) and the Licentiate Diploma (LRCM) are the highest academic standings awarded by the RCM Certificate Program.  The ARCT is available for Performance (all instruments), Piano Pedagogy and Teacher (non-piano).  The LRCM is available for Piano Performance only.  

Diplomas are either given at annual Convocation ceremonies or mailed to graduates who are unable to attend.
 
Diplomas Examinations Required
ARCT Performer's
  • Prerequisites:
    • Level 8 Theory or Advanced Rudiments
    • Level 9 History or History 1
    • Level 9 Harmony or Basic Harmony or Level 9 Keyboard Harmony or Basic Keyboard Harmony**
    • Level 10 Comprehensive Certificate (in the same discipline as the ARCT Performer’s)
  • Level 6 Piano (Voice, Strings, Winds, Brass and Percussion candidates only)
  • ARCT Performer's (minimum mark of 70%)
  • ARCT History or History 3: 19th Century to Present
  • Two of the following:
    • ARCT Harmony & Counterpoint or Advanced Harmony or ARCT Keyboard Harmony or Advanced Keyboard Harmony
    • ARCT Analysis or Analysis
    • Counterpoint*
LRCM in Piano Performance
  • Prerequisite: ARCT Performer's Diploma in Piano (requirements detailed above)
  • LRCM in Piano Performance (minimum mark of 70%)
ARCT in Piano Pedagogy
  • Prerequisite: Intermediate Piano Pedagogy Certificate
  • Part 1: Piano Practical Examination (minimum mark of 70%)
  • Part 2: Advanced Piano Pedagogy Viva Voce (minimum mark of 70%)
  • Part 3: Advanced Piano Pedagogy  Written or Teaching Advanced Piano (online course) (minimum mark of 70%)
  • ARCT History or History 3
  • Two of the following:
    • ARCT Harmony & Counterpoint or Advanced Harmony or ARCT Keyboard Harmony or Advanced Keyboard Harmony
    • ARCT Analysis or Analysis
    • Counterpoint*
ARCT Teacher (for non-piano instruments)
  • Prerequisite: Level 10 Comprehensive Certificate (in the same discipline as the ARCT Teacher)
  • ARCT Teacher's (Non-Piano) (minimum mark of 70%)
  • Level 8 Piano
  • ARCT History or History 3: 19th Century to Present
  • Two of the following:
    • ARCT Harmony & Counterpoint or Advanced Harmony or ARCT Keyboard Harmony or Advanced Keyboard Harmony
    • ARCT Analysis or Analysis
    • Counterpoint*
ARCT in Composition and/or Theory
  • Renaissance Counterpoint
  • Baroque Harmony and Counterpoint I
  • Baroque Harmony and Counterpoint II
  • Classical Harmony and Counterpoint
  • Romantic and Post-Romantic Harmony and Counterpoint
  • Post-1900 Composition Techniques
  • Orchestration I
  • Orchestration II
  • Analysis
  • History I
  • History II
  • Ear Test
* If completed prior to January 2017
