A Message from The Royal Conservatory of Music
Published on June 22, 2026
Today, I want to share that Katharine Montpetit of Rubin & Co. LLP has been retained to lead an independent investigation into allegations of historical sexual abuse at the Toronto campus of the Royal Conservatory of Music. She begins her work this week.
Ms. Montpetit’s investigation is fully arms-length from the institution. She has the latitude to follow what she finds, wherever it leads. The people whose lives have been affected deserve an investigation that is independent, complete, and credible.
Investigations like this take time. People need trust to be established before they will speak. For some it may be the first time they are sharing their experiences.
We recognize that confidentiality is essential to protecting the integrity of the investigation and the privacy of everyone involved. To anyone who has been harmed, or who has knowledge of harm, please know this process has been created so that your voice can be heard in a safe and supportive environment.
I have been asked to share that Rubin & Co. LLP has set up a dedicated email address for the investigation, [email protected], should you wish to contact Ms. Montpetit with information relevant to her investigation.
To those in our community who have been carrying the weight of sexual abuse for so long, we are truly sorry.
The safety and wellbeing of students is our highest responsibility. We understand and share the wish for answers. As an institution, we have an obligation to get this right. We believe that Ms. Montpetit’s work is an important first step.
We are committed to sharing, in due course, the lessons we learn and the actions we take as a result.
