The Dean's Fund for The Glenn Gould School

The Dean's Fund for The Glenn Gould School
Teacher and student holding violin

You can help launch the careers of outstanding young artists.

The teaching philosophy at The Glenn Gould School is simple: offer a limited number of talented students one-on-one time with the finest teachers and ample performance opportunities – and they will develop into exceptional professional artists.

Providing the highest level of personalized instruction is resource intensive. Your support of The Dean’s Fund will ensure that The Glenn Gould School can continue to attract the best talent, produce extraordinary career-ready musicians, and reinforce its reputation as one of the world’s top institutions for music performance and learning.

The Dean’s Fund deepens career-focused learning by creating meaningful performance opportunities along with a practical curriculum to produce graduates who are significantly more prepared for the professional stage. It supports personalized teaching to recruit and retain a highly distinguished faculty to ensure student success.

Your gift to The Dean’s Fund will help The Glenn Gould School ensure that every student:

  • Receives ample performance opportunities in Royal Conservatory Orchestra concerts and Operas
  • Benefits from 50% more one-on-one time with teachers than other music schools
  • Participates in a comprehensive program of master classes (about 125 each year) to learn from acclaimed musicians and develop the skills needed for success

The Glenn Gould School has afforded me the opportunity to work with phenomenal teachers and coaches and has inspired me to throw myself deeply into music. I have learned what it means to work hard and to make difficult sacrifices and I have grown tremendously as a musician and even more so as a person.

Music has an incredible power to bring people together and heal. I think now more than ever, we need as much music in our communities as possible. The Glenn Gould School provides immeasurable support and opportunities for young musicians getting ready to enter the world stage.

Gábor Tarkövi’s (Principal trumpet of the Berliner Philharmoniker) recital was completely engaging and exciting from his first note to the last. His display of artistry and technicality was so incredibly consistent. I am so lucky to also have been in his wonderful master class with my friends and colleagues. Mr. Tarkövi’s expertise on the trumpet completely changed the way I think about music.

Mr. Kantor has taught me so much not only about music and violin playing, but also about how to be a better person. He has taught me to not just accept the status quo but look for creative solutions by approaching things with the mindset that ‘there must be a better way.’ His teaching embodies warmth and respect; his love and respect for music instills in all of us a pursuit of the highest calibre of performance. I am so grateful to have Mr. Kantor as a teacher and role model in my life.
