Stewart Goodyear. Jan Lisiecki. Yi-Jia Susanne Hou. Ema Nikolovska. Blake Pouliot. These are just a few of the notable alumni whose musical gifts flourished at The Taylor Academy.

The Royal Conservatory’s prestigious Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists is now accepting applications for the 2022-23 academic year. For more than three decades, The Taylor Academy has offered an exceptional training program for gifted classical musicians between the ages of 8 and 18. The Junior Academy (ages 8-13) accepts students of piano and strings, The Senior Academy (ages 14-18) accepts students of strings, piano, classical guitar, woodwinds, horn, and voice.

The Taylor Academy program runs from September through May and is designed around a core curriculum that includes private lessons, ensembles, academic courses, and performances through concerts and master classes.

“The Taylor Academy program is based on the philosophy that young talent, when properly nurtured and expertly trained, can become exceptional Our job is to make sure these young musicians are ready to soar,” says Barry Shiffman, Director, The Taylor Academy “We offer acclaimed faculty dedicated to training young musicians, stunning facilities, and a community of gifted, like-minded students Having been a Taylor Academy student myself (then known as the Special Program), my enriched experiences laid the foundation for my advanced music studies and led to friendships that continue to this day.”

Over 85% of Taylor Academy graduates go on to study music in post-secondary school, making The Taylor Academy the ideal environment for serious young classical musicians. Taylor Academy graduates can be found at prestigious post-secondary institutions including The Juilliard School, Harvard University, Curtis Institute of Music, Yale University, The Colburn School, McGill University, New England Conservatory and The Glenn Gould School.

Thanks to the support of generous donors, all students accepted into The Taylor Academy receive a scholarship from The Royal Conservatory to subsidize their tuition.

In addition to the excellent training and mentorship offered, The Taylor Academy fosters an environment where exceptional musicians are surrounded by young people of similar abilities and interests. Through the ensemble work, master classes, and concert performances, The Academy offers a place where these young artists inspire, and are inspired by, each other. It’s a community of like-minded young people where lifelong friendships are made.

“My experience at the Taylor Academy has been really great,” says cellist Daniel Hass. “These past three years I’ve learned so many things and I’ve played and interacted with so many great musicians.”

Violinist Emma Meinrenken concurs, “The Taylor Academy is a good opportunity for anybody talented who wants to go into music because It gives them opportunity to perform and to make friends, and to collaborate with people they would never have met.”
