Dr. David Goldbloom was born in Montreal and raised in Quebec and Nova Scotia. He earned an honours degree in Government from Harvard University before attending the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, where he obtained an M.A. in Physiological Sciences. He then trained in medicine and psychiatry at McGill University and is now a Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto.
 
A highly respected clinician, educator, and author, Dr. Goldbloom has received numerous awards from both peers and students. He has authored multiple scientific articles and book chapters, delivered lectures to diverse audiences, and edited two psychiatry textbooks. He is also the co-author, alongside Dr. Pier Bryden, of the best-selling book How Can I Help? A Week in My Life as a Psychiatrist, as well as author of the book We Can Do Better: Urgent Innovations to Improve Mental Health Access and Care.
 
Dr. Goldbloom recently retired from his clinical and teaching roles at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), as well as his role as Senior Medical Advisor. From 2007 to 2015, he served as Vice-Chair and then Chair of the Board of the Mental Health Commission of Canada.
 
Beyond his medical career, Dr. Goldbloom is deeply engaged in philanthropy and the arts. He serves on the boards of the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, The Daymark Foundation, and the Graham Boeckh Foundation. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Royal Conservatory of Music and a past Chair of the Board of Governors of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival of Canada. In recognition of his contributions, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada.
