With more than ten years of teaching experience, Emerald has built a professional career in classical music and music pedagogy specializing in clarinet, piano and saxophone. After completing her ARCT in piano and Grade 10 saxophone from the RCM curriculum, she went on to pursue a Bachelor’s of Music at McGill University with scholarships from Maureen Forrester Musician’s Guild and Cathy Lynn Yorke-Slader Foundation. As a recipient of the DAAD Stipendium, she later received her Master’s of Music from Trossingen Hochschule für Musik in Germany. She is currently a doctoral fellow at the University of Toronto as a recipient of numerous scholarships such as the Arthur Plettner Graduate Fellowship. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As an active performer Emerald debuted with the Toronto Sinfonietta with Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto. Subsequently, she has appeared as a featured soloist in the Schloss Pommersfelden Music Festival, I Solisti Music Festival and the Spaichingen Kultur & Klinik. With a passion for chamber music, she has presented numerous chamber concerts in Canada and Europe and enjoyed performing with distinguished artists in Europe such as Márta Gulyás, Jürgen Weber and Benjamin Dieltjens. In her orchestral career, she has been invited to perform and tour as the guest principal clarinettist of Sichuan Symphony Orchestra and has toured with other orchestras from Canada, Germany, Belgium in renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall, Roy Thomson Hall, Maison Symphonique, National Arts Centre Ottawa, Koningin Elisabethzaal Antwerp, Liederhalle Stuttgart, Shanghai Concert Hall and Chengdu City Music Hall. She currently freelances with orchestras across the Greater Toronto Area. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A decade into teaching, Emerald continues to be fascinated with pedagogy. Her teaching career has been spread between Canada, Europe and China. She has experience with students of all ages across all levels of ability and different specialized needs. Her unique approach combines North American and European pedagogy and focuses on holistic body use, breathing techniques, musical understanding and having fun!
