Eva Skanse

Hi, I'm Eva. I teach lessons in flute, traverso (baroque flute), and Irish 8-key flute.

My flute students have regularly placed in youth orchestras, all-state ensembles, honor bands, and have recieved distinguished rankings at solo and ensemble competitions. I have had many students participate in national competitions. My students have gone on to some of the finest conservatories in the country including Boston Conservatory and the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

I also teach a number of adult amateur flutists who regularly play with community ensembles and give recitals.

As a flutist, my artistic identity is rooted in the belief that the flute is an extension of the human voice, capable of articulating the most profound nuances of the human experience. My performance philosophy is guided by the pursuit of "tonal color"—a concept championed by the great pedagogues of the French Flute School, of which I am a product—whereby the player manipulates the air column to mirror the shifting “story” of a composition. Whether the music is a contemporary work by a living composer or historic music, I approach each composition as a narrative waiting to be articulated.

In my teaching, my pedagogical goal is not to create carbon copies of my own playing style, but to provide the tools—technical, intellectual, and emotional—that allow each student to discover their own unique voice.
