Fanny Hung

Fanny began her music training in her native Hong Kong. First, she took piano lessons, then she sang in a girls’ school choir that won many awards. At 16, Fanny won the HK Annual Speech and Music Festival in the Female Voice Duet Open Category with her singing partner, Ella Kung (also a voice student of Ella Kiang). A year later, Fanny also started voice lessons with this soprano legend. After coming to Canada, Fanny continued to study voice with Norma Tetreau (RCM), Ginette Duplessis (RCM), Robert Poliquin (McGill Con.), Valerie Kinslow (Concordia), and piano with Russian pianist Larisa Trubashnik (RCM). While still in College, Fanny worked as a music instructor for young children (age 3-5) and preparatory choir (age 5-6) at the renowned HK Yip’s Children’s Choral and Performing Arts Centre. After moving to Canada, she worked as one of the pioneer teachers at the Canada Yip’s Music Centre in Markham when they first opened in October, 1990. The year after, Fanny moved to Montreal to pursue her music studies at the McGill Conservatory of Music. Later, Fanny graduated with distinctions first from Concordia University, then from McGill University. After obtaining her teaching licence, Fanny has been working as a music specialist in various schools in the Montreal area, including McGill Conservatory where she was once a student. In Montreal, Fanny was a principal singer with the Montreal West Operatic Society. She also sang with the Lyric Theatre Singers and the Montreal Chapter of the Sweet Adelines International. In addition to working as a music teacher, Fanny was directing choirs, handbells, and tonechimes in various schools and churches. From time to time, Fanny also provides piano accompaniment for students who study violin, flute, oboe, and clarinet. Fanny has been giving private lessons in voice, piano, theory, and harmony for over 30 years now. In 2018, Fanny moved back to the GTA and is currently residing and teaching in Mississauga. She continues to produce many students who consistently achieve First Class Honours with Distinction (90-100%) in RCM exams. In addition, Fanny's students participate actively at the Peel Music Festival and won first, second, and third places. Recently, one of Fanny’s private voice students has been accepted to St. Michael’s Choir School, one of the most prestigious schools in Ontario. Fanny is currently accepting students who wish to follow the RCM syllabus, get ready for the RCM level exams, and participates in music and speech festivals. She can offer her service in English, French, and Cantonese.
