Janis Mitchell

I started piano lessons at the age of 3, studying with Kelly Kirby and later with Harry Heap, with whom I completed my ARCT while attending high school. Subsequently, I studied music at the University of Toronto, during which time I was fortunate to study piano with Doug Bodle, harpsichord with Greta Krause, as well as giving three public solo recitals; I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, then started a studio, teaching piano, theory and harmony, as well as accompanying instrumentalists. For 20 years, I played in churches across northern York Region and conducted choirs.
Teaching has been the joy of my life and I’m proud of the many students that I have had, and that went on to pursue musical careers.
