Ke Mao

Teacher's BIO KE MAO, ADV. Mus., B. Mus., ADP. Drama Ke Mao is a renowned mezzo-soprano, an accomplished vocal educator, and the founder and principal of MK Singing School. She previously served as a vocal and drama performance instructor at leading music conservatories in China. Throughout her career, she has frequently performed as a soloist and host at major provincial, municipal, and national level concerts and galas. The musical theatre productions, plays, and film and television projects she participated in have repeatedly received First Prize honors from provincial Departments of Culture and Education, as well as China’s Ministry of Culture. Ms. Mao has released more than a dozen vocal albums through Guangzhou Audio & Video Publishing House. Her rich vocal timbre and elegant, lyrical style have been praised widely by both the media and the general public. In 2006, she was admitted to the Glenn Gould School of The Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM GGS) in Canada with outstanding results and received a scholarship. She studied under legendary Canadian mezzo-soprano Jean MacPhail, renowned collaborative pianist Peter Tiefenbach, and acclaimed director Tom Diamond. She became the first Chinese student ever admitted to the vocal performance program at RCM GGS. During her time at the Conservatory, she gave multiple successful solo recitals at the RCM concert hall and signed with the Toronto Operetta Theatre, performing in numerous operas. Ms. Mao went on to win First Prize in the “Newcomer Idol” vocal competition in Canada. Her story was featured on the front page of major Canadian newspapers such as The Toronto Star and Metro News, and she was recognized by the Toronto District School Board as an exemplary case of immigrant success. A passionate advocate for vocal arts, Ms. Mao has achieved not only great personal success as a performer but also widespread recognition as a dedicated educator. Since founding MK Singing School, she has focused on the field of youth vocal education in North America, nurturing a large number of talented students from various cultural backgrounds. With her strong professional background and humorous, bilingual teaching style, she makes complex vocal techniques accessible and engaging. Her warm and inspiring classroom environment has made her a beloved teacher among students and parents alike. Under her careful guidance, students have shown rapid and notable improvement, consistently winning awards in city, provincial, and international vocal competitions, including the prestigious Young Voice competitions across North America. Beyond competitions, Ms. Mao also encourages students to use their voices for social good. Together, they have performed at long-term care homes such as Mon Sheong, raised funds for education programs for girls in Western China, supported the Ontario SPCA, and organized vocal salons for children with autism—demonstrating that singing can also be a powerful tool for compassion and community. In addition to her teaching and performance work, Ms. Mao has served as a judge for many important vocal competitions, including the Unionville Music Festival in Toronto, the NATS National Student Vocal Competition, and the Toronto regional division of the global Water Cube Cup Chinese Song Contest. She is a cer tified vocal instructor with The Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM), a member of the Ontari o Registered Music Teachers’ Association (ORMTA), the Canadian Federation of Music Teache rs’ Associations (CFMTA), and the National Association of Teachers of Singing(NATS)
