Canadian pianist, Dr. Megan Chang is an active soloist, chamber musician, teacher and adjudicator. She was the permanent national adjudicator for the 2019 Canadian Music Competition. Dr. Chang also actively adjudicates for the Royal Conservatory of Music Examinations in North America. During the summer of 2008, Dr. Chang gave her first European solo recital in Holland. In 2010, she and pianist, Megumi Okamoto, performed with the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of David Briskin. Dr. Chang was born in Taiwan and raised in Vancouver, Canada. During her years in Vancouver, her teachers included Yun Han Mao, Winfried Rompf and Edward Parker. She then relocated to pursue her Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance at the University of Toronto, and has since been studying under the tutelage of Marietta Orlov. In 2007, in addition to her studies with Professor Marietta Orlov, she also joined the piano pedagogy department with Dr. Midori Koga, and finished her Master’s degree in Piano Performance Pedagogy. She then received her Doctoral of Musical Arts with Professor Marietta Orlov, specializing in the music of Franz Liszt. Over the years, she participated in master classes given by Boris Berman, Matti Raekallio, Anton Kuerti, Marc Durand, Stéphane Lemelin and Jamie Parker, among others. In addition to her studies in piano, she received her Flute Performer’s diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Susan Hoeppener. Dr. Chang currently teaches at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Music and privately in Toronto, Ontario.
