Thomas is a flutist, piccoloist and educator residing in Vancouver. He is currently Acting Co-Principal Flute with the Okanagan Symphony for the 22/23 season and is serving as Music Director of the Capilano Flute Choir. As a dedicated educator, Thomas maintains a thriving and inclusive flute studio. He creates a collaborative environment where learning extends beyond the lesson room through studio-wide projects, activities, and performance opportunities, providing a well-rounded musical experience throughout the year. Thomas's studio may also include optional chamber music, such as flute choir and ensembles, fostering a sense of camaraderie among his students. He has a proven track record of success with beginners, young students, exam/competition/university preparation, and adult amateurs. Beyond teaching in his studio, Thomas is a sought-after clinician and has presented his own workshops known as "Thomas' Tiny Tips" at the Cantando Festival, Nacho Orchestra, and at high school retreats in Vancouver, North Vancouver, and Richmond. He has previously taught at St. James Music Academy and served as a teaching artist with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Connects Program during his masters’ studies. Outside the lesson room, Thomas is a frequent clinician and has presented workshops dubbed “Thomas’ Tiny Tips” at the Cantando Festival, Nacho Orchestra and for high school retreats in Vancouver, North Vancouver and Richmond. Thomas has previously taught at St. James Music Academy and was a teaching artist with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Connects Program during his studies. As an active orchestral musician, Thomas has often been spotted performing with the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Island Symphony, Victoria Symphony, Symphony21, Kamloops Symphony Orchestra, Crazy8 Band and among many other local groups. An enthusiastic chamber musician, Thomas is a frequent recitalist and performs with guitarist, Luis Medina, and pianist, Nikola Markovic at concert series across Vancouver. In addition to his duos’, Thomas has performed in the Sonic Boom Festival. Thomas received his Master in Music from the University of British Columbia, Certificate in Flute Pedagogy and Literature from the Victoria Conservatory of Music and have previously studied at the University of Victoria and Capilano University. He has been fortunate to be able to study with Christie Reside, Mary Byrne, Suzanne Snizek and Brenda Fedoruk. Summer masterclass workshops has allowed Thomas to learn from Paula Robison, Marina Piccinini, Susan Hoeppner, Lorna McGhee and the late William Bennett. During his studies, Thomas has appeared as a concerto soloist with the Greater Youth Victoria Orchestra, Victoria Conservatory of Music Showcase and the Victoria Bach Ensemble Thomas is also extremely grateful to have received performance prizes and scholarships from the BC Arts Council, FlutePlay, UBC, Capilano University, Victoria Conservatory of Music, Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival and Performing Arts BC.
