Director Peter Phillips has worked with The Tallis Scholars, leading exponent of Renaissance sacred music throughout the world, to create, through good tuning and blend, the purity and clarity of sound that serves the Renaissance repertoire, allowing every detail of the musical lines to be heard. Based in a fascination with how composers from different backgrounds set the same seminal texts, this program reveals how important and durable plainchant [plainsong] was, from the Renaissance period to 20th century Paris, and from territories as far apart as England and Mexico.
