Anna Höstman

"Anna is such a fantastic teacher! She is so calm, lovely, and encouraging, and my son adores her lessons. She is always patient, and in tune with my child’s level of ability. I feel lucky that my son’s introduction to music, and his musical development is with Anna". – Sylvie, parent My approach to teaching piano and theory is to cultivate artistic excellence and a deep love for music in my students! Currently, I have a lovely studio of piano students who range from introductory level to Grade 8 RCM. I also have a particularly wonderful group of adult pianists and my teaching studio specializes in teaching piano to the mature student. During Covid-19, I have been teaching online, however I hope to be able to offer a mixture of online and in person lessons again beginning in September 2021. For a slightly higher fee, I offer a small number of in-home lessons for students who live close to downtown or in surrounding neighbourhoods, such as Fairfield and Fernwood. As a pianist, composer, and educator, I support the Royal Conservatory program in my lesson planning, and many of my students have successfully completed piano and theory exams through RCM examinations. Along with teaching piano and theory, I am also a Juno-nominated composer. I have taught music composition privately, and at the undergraduate and graduate levels at the University of Victoria. (www.annahostman.net) I hold a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Toronto (2013).
