Katie McMahon

I was the original lead singer from the Riverdance Show and moved from Ireland to the USA after my touring days were over. I was trained classically in Harp and Voice, using the Royal Irish Academy method and also studied traditional Irish music with many different teachers. After I moved to Minneapolis and started my teaching studio in earnest, I began to sing for fun with several rock bands and expanded my vocal teaching to include not only classical and folk styles, but also musical and rock styles. I often work with students who are interested in being able to sing in all styles. Since Covid, I moved my studio online. At first this was challenging, but now it gives me and my students a huge amount of freedom in scheduling and location is no longer a barrier to being my student. I now teach students on both coasts and Europe online. In the Fall I will reopen my physical studio in Minneapolis, but will also continue teaching online to facilitate students who prefer to learn that way. I aim to give my students a warm and personable experience. I specialize in beginners of all ages with the harp with an emphasis on proper technique and music reading. Once we have covered the basics I like to let my students lead me where they would like to go musically. If they would like more structure, I recommend the RCA exam method, as I believe it is an extremely comprehensive musical education. My Voice teaching also focuses on technique, foreign language expertise (fluent in German, Italian & French) and connecting your emotions and body with your singing.
