Choir: Adult Community Choir (Ages 18+)

Adult Choir is available in two levels/groups for complete beginners and for students with some musical experience. 

Beginner Choir: Learn to Sing

This class is designed for complete beginners, learning basic vocal technique and how to sing with others. You'll sing repertoire from a variety of genres including well-known classical selections to crossover music to choral arrangements of classic popular pieces (specific repertoire selections depend on enrollment). No audition, no prior choral experience, and no sight-reading skills required. 

Community Choir: Beginner & Intermediate

Learn repertoire from well-known classical selections to crossover music to choral arrangements of classic popular pieces (specific repertoire selections depend on enrollment). No audition and no prior choral experience required although music sight-reading skills would be a definite asset.

Class Format for Both Choirs

Each class starts with a physical and vocal warm up. You will also learn:

• solfège
• basic rhythmic reading and counting 
• sight singing simple diatonic melodies 
• singing in parts
• foundation of singing in a healthy way
• musicianship skills required for ensemble singing 
• the ability to gain confidence in your own singing skills

Vocal Coaching

Ever wonder what it is like to be a soloist or in a small ensemble within a choral setting? Students in this course will be featured soloists and/or singing in small ensembles (duets/trios/quartets) in the Community Choir concerts. These coaching sessions focus on vocal technique and run like mini group lesson, with each student getting individual attention from the instructor and observing others in the class being coached. Each student will learn their own solo and work on it weekly. No previous vocal training required but having music reading skills is a pre-requisite.
