It was a spectacular night in Koerner Hall as students competed in the finals of the annual Glenn Gould School Chamber Competition on March 6, made possible by a generous gift made in honour of R.S. Williams & Sons Company Ltd.

After a preliminary round of performances that included 18 different ensembles from The Glenn Gould School (GGS), five finalists were selected to compete for the coveted opportunity to perform in front of an appreciative Koerner Hall audience as well as $11,000 in cash prizes including a Grand Prize of $5,000.

“We are incredibly lucky to have this chamber competition that has now become a standout annual event at The Glenn Gould School,” said Barry Shiffman, Associate Dean of The Glenn Gould School and Director of Chamber Music. “The value of this competition is in the journey, the exploration of ideas and the dedication required from these students to share their interpretations with the world.”

The Morningside Trio, featuring Anna Stube (violin), David Liam Roberts (cello) and Henry From (piano) won the coveted Grand Prize with their performance of Piano Trio No. 1 in B major, Op. 8 (1889) by Johannes Brahms.
