RCM alumnae Leandra Earl of The Beaches and Tate McRae were among those who won multiple awards

Alumni and other RCM community members were recognized at the 2024 JUNO awards last night both as winners and nominees. “Canada’s Biggest Night in Music” was hosted by Nelly Furtado who is both an alumna and Honorary Fellow of the RCM.  For the previous two years, the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) JUNO Awards were hosted by RCM alumnus, Simu Liu

RCM alumna Tate McRae won Artist of the Year as well Single of the Year for Greedy. Group of the Year was awarded to The Beaches, of which RCM alumna Leandra Earl is a member, who also won Rock Album of the Year for Blame My Ex. RCM alumna Amanda Marshall won Adult Contemporary Album of the Year for Heavy Lifting and James Ehnes, RCM Honorary Fellow and Koerner Hall artist, won Classical Album of the Year: Solo Artist for Nielsen: Violin Concerto, Symphony No. 4. Lastly, RCM alumnae, Teagan and Sara, were honoured with the JUNOs Humanitarian Award for their efforts in supporting 2SLGBTQ+ youth.

  • Christine Jensen (Koerner Hall artist) for Day Moon (Jazz Album of the Year: Solo) 

  • Dominique Fils-Aimee (Koerner Hall artist) for Our Roots Run Deep (Vocal Jazz Album of the Year) 

  • Feist (RCM Honorary Fellow) for Multitudes (Adult Alternative Album of the Year) 

  • Hilario Duran (Koerner Hall artist) for Cry Me A River (Jazz Album of the Year: Group) 

  • Nicole Lizée (Koerner Hall artist) for Don't Throw Your Head in Your Hands (Classical Composition of the Year) 
  • OKAN (Koerner Hall artist) for Okantomi (Global Music Album of the Year)

Many other RCM community members were nominated for JUNO awards including RCM alumna and Koerner Hall artist Allison Au whose album Migrations was nominated for Jazz Album of the Year: Group. Migrations was commissioned by The Royal Conservatory in 2019, premiered in January 2020 at the RCM’s 21C Music Festival, and was recorded as Au’s fourth studio album in 2022.

  • Susan Passmore (RCM alumna) for We Will Never Be The Same (Contemporary Roots Album of the Year) 

  • Justin Tessier (RCM alumnus) for Pretty Monster (Rock Album of the Year) 

  • Shania Twain (RCM alumna) for Queen of Me (Pop Album of the Year) and Artist of the Year
