A lifelong Torontonian, Chris holds and ARCT in Piano Performance (The Royal Conservatory), a Bachelor of Music in Music Education (University of Toronto) and a Master of Arts in Musicology and Ethnomusicology (York University) with a particular interest in post-1900 Western Classical music, the music of Africa and the African diaspora, and Indian classical music. Chris studied piano with Sadie Squires, Gordon Hallett, William Aide, and Andrew Markow. He also studied classical Indian drumming (tabla) with Sharda Sahai and composition with Samuel Dolin. Chris taught both private and group class piano for 13 years prior to joining The Royal Conservatory Piano and Theory faculties in 1991. He is also a senior member of the Royal Conservatory College of Examiners in both Piano and Theory, and a member of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association. In addition to his musical activities, he is a practitioner and instructor of Tai Chi under the auspices of the Taoist Tai Chi Society.
