Jialiang received her Master’s Degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Toronto (U of T)’s Faculty of Music, where she has worked with students from a wide age range and from elementary to undergraduate music major levels.
Jialiang strives to help students establish a lifetime affinity for music, build a solid technical foundation, improve musicianship, and appreciate music from diverse cultures. She guides students in areas including music theory, sight-reading, improvisation, and composition. As a seasoned group class instructor, Jialiang has taught the undergraduate Keyboard Skills Class at the U of T’s Faculty of Music, Keyboard Class at The Royal Conservatory's Oscar Peterson School of Music's summer Instrument Exploration Camp (age 4-5 & 6-7), as well as Yamaha Young Musicians group classes (age 5-6) at the WizzKidz School. No matter the age and background of her students, she is determined to help them learn new skills and enjoy making music.
Besides her piano teaching, Jialiang is a passionate vocal coach and specializes in Chinese vocal repertoire. She has coached vocalists from different cultural backgrounds on Chinese songs and performed with them at organizations such as the Canadian Opera Company, University of Toronto, University of Ottawa, University of Manitoba, Canadian Museum for Human Rights, and Beijing Central Conservatory of Music. Through her doctoral research in Chinese songs based on ancient poetry, she is creating a diction manual and an interpretive guide for non-native speakers to perform this repertoire.
