Astor Piazzolla’s Grammy Award‑winning pianist and his quintet are joined by the gifted Italian jazz vocalist for a unique collaboration.
For decades, Buenos Aires-born pianist, composer, and arranger Pablo Ziegler has been one of the most important figures in Argentine new tango, the vibrant musical hybrid of classic tango, American jazz, and European art music. After performing in tango grand-maestro Astor Piazzolla’s legendary quintet for over a decade and appearing on iconic Piazzolla recordings including Tango: Zero Hour, La Camorra, and The Central Park Concert, Ziegler led his own groups for over 20 years, refining and reimagining the bounds of the modern tango tradition.
Three-time Grammy Award nominated vocalist Roberta Gambarini burst on the world’s jazz scene in 1998, when she became one of the runners-up in the Thelonious Monk Jazz Vocal Competition. She has performed, recorded, and toured extensively with most of the greatest jazz masters, among them: James Moody, Clark Terry, Roy Hargrove, Jimmy Heath, Hank Jones, Billy Higgins, Herbie Hancock, Michael Brecker, Dave Brubeck, the Dizzy Gillespie All Stars Big Band, Jon Batiste, Chucho Valdés, Paquito D’Rivera, and many more.
After the concert, enjoy a beverage and more music at the Postlude Performance featuring a local emerging artist in the Leslie & Anna Dan Galleria.
