During the 1980s, I had the privilege of working as a pianist in the renowned China National Opera House located in Beijing, China. My educational background includes graduating from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, as well as the University of Helsinki in Finland, where I obtained my Master of Arts degree in 1991. Prior to immigrating to Canada in 2005, I had the pleasure of teaching numerous young aspiring piano students in China, Finland, and the United States. Since 2015, I have been certified as an advanced piano teacher by the esteemed Royal Conservatory of Music.
Since 2005, I have been imparting my knowledge and expertise in piano teaching to children in Toronto. With dedication and hard work, I have helped hundreds of my students pass RCM Level 4 through Level 10 exams with flying colors. While my primary objective is to prepare and guide students toward exam success, I also prioritize the importance of teaching them the most effective, comfortable, and easy ways to play the piano. My ultimate goal is to instill in all my students the passion for playing the piano and enjoying music. To enhance the learning experience, I often incorporate singing melodies of piano music for my students and strongly encourage them to sing while playing the piano. This teaching method was practiced by the legendary Chopin, and the great pianist Horowitz emphasized making the piano a singing instrument. Piano music has both artistic and scientific elements intertwined.
I was honored to receive an invitation from the Royal Conservatory of Music on April 6, 2022. The invitation cordially invites me, as a distinguished RCM teacher, to join the historic event 'Music Lights the Way' in person at Koerner Hall on the evening of April 27th. In addition, I am delighted to showcase the exceptional talent of my students through the following video performances.
