Christine Carlson

Hi! Welcome! My philosophy is to inspire the student in the enjoyment of music in a fun, creative way, by using hands-on teaching techniques, colourful teaching aids, music rhythm instruments, and various music games. I am a patient, courteous, and kind teacher, welcoming beginning students of all ages! I teach private and group classes (with parent participation). I like my parents to be involved in their child's learning. My background is I started teaching in 1987 through a program called "Back to Basics" for beginners, it involved both private and group lessons each week. The students became very comfortable performing their songs amongst their peers. For many years I have taught both private and group lessons teaching in various methods, "Piano Adventures, Alfred and Bastien, and finally the Royal Conservatory Curriculum. I have put students in Music Festivals and RCM exams with success. I have special skills in teaching pre-school-age children to play the piano through the "Music for Young Children" program. The MYC student graduates with level five music theory and is ready for grade one RCM Piano. I have an Associate Music degree from Vancouver Island University with Grade 10 adjudication exam results and further studies from the University of Lethbridge Bachelor's degree program. I have played for a church choir and performed myself at RCM exams, Festivals and Recitals. I love to share my knowledge of teaching music to children and adults alike. I'm so grateful to have a career which I'm so passionate about. I continue to study music and hone my skills so that my students receive the best pedagogical experience.
