Edith Suen is a pianist whose performances—praised by adjudicators as “captivating,” “sensational,” “virtuosic,” and noted for their “terrific energy,” “fantastic brilliance,” and “wonderful dexterity”, reflect a distinctly non-traditional, interdisciplinary profile informed by both performance and advanced legal training. In December 2025, she was selected from a highly competitive international applicant pool to compete at the 19th Campillos International Piano Competition in Spain.
Edith’s artistry and stage presence have earned her numerous accolades at both international and regional piano competitions, including the 7th WPTA Finland International Piano Competition (2025), the Carles & Sofia International Piano Competition (2024, 2025), the Eleventh Stockholm International Music Competition, and the Chopin Avenue International Piano Competition (2024). In Canada, she was a finalist at the Ontario Music Festivals Association Provincials (2023), and she was earlier recognized at the 10th Hong Kong Piano Open Competition, hosted by the Hong Kong Piano Music Association.
Edith brings over 15 years of teaching experience, working with students of all ages—from young children to adults—each with distinct personalities, abilities, and learning styles. She emphasizes the development of a well-balanced technique, guiding students to cultivate a beautiful tone, technical fluency, and a comprehensive musical skill set. Renowned for her ability to identify and nurture each student’s individual strengths, Edith inspires confidence and musical growth through her passion for piano performance. She also prepares students to perform at their best in recitals, drawing on her own stage experience to share practical strategies for managing performance anxiety. Under her guidance, students have consistently achieved exceptional results, including First Class Honours or higher in RCM examinations and top-three placements in piano competitions.
As a concerto soloist, Edith performed the first movement of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor, Op. 37 in August 2025 with the Cornero Festival Orchestra under Maestro Lorenzo Di Bella in Recanati, Italy. In April 2024, after winning the audition class at the Unionville Music Competition in Toronto, she collaborated as a guest pianist with the Bedford Trio—the University of Toronto’s Artists in Residence—performing Clara Schumann’s Piano Trio in G minor, Op. 17 at the Winners’ Concert held at a prominent downtown Toronto church.
Alongside her artistic career, Edith was called to the Bar of Hong Kong in 2022 and is advancing her legal career in Toronto. She has completed an Executive Master of Laws (GPLLM) with a cumulative GPA of 3.97 out of 4, achieving outstanding results and is currently undertaking an additional LL.M.—a highly competitive program funded by a full fellowship —to fulfil the academic requirements for admission to the legal profession in Canada. Her ability to balance a demanding legal trajectory with a vibrant performance life reflects exceptional discipline, versatility, and a deep commitment to excellence in both fields.
