Canadian pianist Jean-Luc Therrien brings over 25 years of performance experience and more than a decade of international teaching and masterclass work. He is currently on faculty at the University of Toronto and the Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy, and also runs a private studio in Toronto’s east end.
A thoughtful and rigorous pedagogue, he guides students of all ages toward independence and confident mastery of their repertoire, whether for personal enjoyment, exams, or performance. He teaches in both English and French, and offers basic instruction in German.
In addition to his teaching and performing, he has released two albums, including Piano Preludes, which was selected by CBC Music as one of Canada’s top 21 classical albums of 2021. He is also an active adjudicator in various music festivals across Canada and has given masterclasses internationally.
His teaching is rooted in personalized learning plans, combining encouragement with high standards to help each student reach their full potential.
