Jose Alberto Ubach

ALBERTO UBACH obtained his Guitar Performer Diploma from Mexico’s National Conservatory of Music. In 1982 he participated in the Superior Course of Music Interpretation, with maestro Andrés Segovia at the Conservatory of Music of Geneva, Switzerland. From 1987 to 1988, he studied Instrumental Conducting with Doctor Donald Barra, at San Diego State University (SDSU). In 1990 the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) honored him with its first Recognition for Academic Merit in the Field of Arts. In 1998 he received a grant from Mexico’s National Endowment for the Arts (FONCA), to record the CD “Homage to Manuel M. Ponce”, in the fiftieth anniversary of the composer’s death. In 2003 he wrote “Diary 2003”, a collection of 365 pieces for guitar, of which three CDs have been recorded by different artists (April, May and October). In 2009 he was inducted into Tijuana’s Hall of Fame. Since 2009 Alberto Ubach lives in Victoria BC, Canada, and in 2011 he was adjudicator in composition of the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival.
