Joshua Wong

Praised for his expressive artistry and commanding stage presence, Canadian pianist Joshua Wong has performed extensively across North America and Europe. His international appearances include celebrated venues and festivals in Salzburg, Coimbra, Hilton Head, and Minneapolis. At home, he has performed in every major Canadian city, captivating audiences with performances that blend technical brilliance and emotional depth.

Joshua’s musical journey began under Marilyn Engle at the University of Calgary, followed by training in the Advanced Performance Program at Mount Royal Conservatory. He recently completed his Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance at McGill University on a full scholarship, studying with Dr. Ilya Poletaev.

In Canada, Joshua has earned several major accolades. He was awarded the prestigious Rose Bowl at the 2019 Calgary Performing Arts Festival, took First Prize at the Canadian Music Competition, and received Second Prize at the Federation of Canadian Music Festivals Competition. He has also been a semi-finalist at both the OSM Manulife Competition and the Hilton Head International Piano Competition. In recognition of his artistic promise, he was named a recipient of the 2022–2023 Hnatyshyn Foundation Developing Artist Grant.

As a soloist, Joshua has appeared with the Concordia Symphony Orchestra and the Calgary Civic Orchestra. His festival performances include the Coimbra World Piano Meeting (Portugal), Toronto Summer Music, Musical Chairs, and the Orford Music Academy. He has worked in masterclasses with some of today’s most distinguished artists, including Alessio Bax, Ronan O’Hora, Louis Lortie, and Robert Levin.

Beyond the stage, Joshua is a passionate music educator whose students have earned top prizes and scholarships at local competitions such as the Calgary Performing Arts Festival. With a teaching approach that balances high standards with individualized support, he is committed to inspiring the next generation of musicians.
