Joshua Wong

Joshua Wong

Joshua Wong has performed extensively around the world, most notably in Salzburg, Coimbra (Portugal), Hilton Head, and Minneapolis. Within Canada, he has performed in every major Canadian city. He began his musical studies with Marilyn Engle at the University of Calgary and studied at Mount Royal Conservatory in the Advanced Performance program. He recently completed a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance at McGill University, studying under Dr. Ilya Poletaev, where he was awarded a full scholarship. In 2019, Joshua was awarded the Rose Bowl at the Calgary Performing Arts Festival. His national achievements include First Prize at the Canadian Music Competition and Second Prize at the Federation of Canadian Music Festivals Competition. He was also a semi-finalist at both the OSM Manulife Competition and the Hilton Head International Piano Competition. Most recently, he received the 2022–2023 Hnatyshyn Foundation Developing Artist Grant for piano. As a soloist, Joshua has performed with the Concordia Symphony Orchestra and the Calgary Civic Orchestra. He has also been featured in numerous music festivals, including the Coimbra World Piano Meeting (Portugal), Musical Chairs, Toronto Summer Music, and Orford Music Academy. He has participated in masterclasses with internationally renowned artists such as Alessio Bax, Ronan O’Hora, Louis Lortie, and Robert Levin. Equally a dedicated music educator, his students have won prizes and scholarships in local competitions, including the Calgary Performing Arts Festival.
