Maria Rost

Maria Rost

Ms. Rost was born in Moscow where she started professional music studies at the age of 5. She gained a B.Mus (Honours) in Music Theory and Piano from the Tchaikovsky College of Music, and M.Mus in Music Education, Theory and Piano from Gnessins Academy of Music, both institutions in Moscow, Russia. She launched her pedagogical career in 1987 while a student at Gnessins Academy of Music. She taught piano and music theory at the Dmitri Kabalevsky School of Music in Moscow while giving individual harmony lessons to students of the Tchaikovsky College of Music. Ms. Rost hosted her own show dedicated to classical music at the Moscow State Radio. In 1997 she immigrated to Canada and settled in Kingston where she built her own private studio. Since that time she has been teaching piano, rudiments and theory for all levels of student, as an active member of ORMTA (Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association). She also maintains an active career as an accompanist, having worked with different soloists and choirs, including Cantabile Choirs directed by Mark Sirett and AURORA Women’s Choir directed by Nadia Izbitskaya with participation of Martha Hill Duncan. Two of Maria's piano students won Canadian Music Competition in 2013 and 2014.
