Maria Rost | B.Mus, M.Mus
Born in Moscow, Maria Rost began her professional musical journey at the age of five. She earned a B.Mus (Honours) in Music Theory and Piano from the Tchaikovsky College of Music, followed by an M.Mus in Music Education, Theory, and Piano from the Gnessins Academy of Music.
Her distinguished teaching career began in 1987 while still a student at Gnessins. During her time in Moscow, she taught at the Dmitri Kabalevsky School of Music and provided advanced harmony instruction to students at the Tchaikovsky College. Beyond the classroom, she shared her passion for the arts as the host of her own classical music program on Moscow State Radio.
Since immigrating to Canada in 1997, Ms. Rost has become a prominent figure in the Ontario music community. Based in Kingston for many years, she established a thriving private studio and became an active member of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association (ORMTA). An accomplished collaborator, she has served as an accompanist for various soloists and renowned ensembles, including the Cantabile Choirs (dir. Mark Sirett) and the AURORA Women’s Choir (dir. Nadia Izbitskaya) with the participation of Martha Hill Duncan.
In 2014, Maria relocated to the Greater Toronto Area, re-establishing her studio in Aurora, Ontario. Her pedagogical excellence is reflected in her students' success; her pupils have won the Canadian Music Competition (2013, 2014) and, more recently, secured first prizes in prestigious international competitions between 2020 and 2025.
