Serena Yeung, born in Hong Kong, is a classically trained singer who graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from the University of Calgary. She began her vocal training in the Hong Kong Children's Choir (HKCC), later studying with Alex Tam and Laura Hynes. Notable achievements include receiving a Provincial Gold Medal from the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM), representing Calgary at the Alberta Provincial Music Festivalin Edmonton, and appearing as a soloist with the Alberta Baroque chamber orchestra Rosa Barocca in Handel’s Messiah. She also made her opera debut at the Halifax Summer Opera Festival and was a chorus member of Opera Hong Kong.
In addition to her classical achievements, Serena has a diverse background in musical theatre and pop music. She played the lead role in the HKCC's 40th anniversary musical A Tale from the Magical Beanland. She recorded backing vocals for the Chung Brothers' album EDGE 極, the theme song for the Hong Kong film Rigor Mortis 殭屍, and soundtracks for the Hong Kong Disneyland. Additionally, she received the “People’s Choice Award” at the Fairchild Radio’s Canadian Chinese Songwriters Quest Singing Contest.
Aside from being a performer, Serena is currently a RCM Certified Teacher, a member of Canadian Federation of Music Teachers’ Associations and the Alberta Registered Music Teachers’ Association (ARMTA) . She has organized four successful student concerts for her growing studio of thirty-five students. Students have earned scholarships from the ARMTA and excelled in the RCM exams.
