Group Piano Class Details & Expectations

MELODY MAKERS: LEVEL 1 - FUNDAMENTALS
Young beginner pianists will have the basics of piano playing under their belts by the end of this course. Through in-class instruction and home practice, Level 1 students learn foundational pianistic concepts including comfortable posture and hand position, keyboard geography and the musical alphabet, rhythmic structure, introduction to various dynamics, and repertoire on white and black keys as well as Middle C and C Position. In tandem with Smart Start or Preparatory Theory, Level 1 students develop a strong ear, sense of rhythm, and collaboration with their peers.

HARMONY HEROES LEVEL 2 – SKILL DEVELOPMENT*
Building on the concepts explored in Level 1, students in Level 2 will enhance their confidence and broaden their knowledge and playing abilities. Students will learn a variety of repertoire that introduce more complex techniques such as legato and staccato articulations, a wider range of dynamics and rhythmic values, playing hands separately and together, playing in various key positions, and using the damper pedal. Technical concepts will be practiced through different activities, in a fun, tactile environment. Development of ear, sense of rhythm, and musical expression continue to be strengthened in tandem with Smart Start or Preparatory Theory.

*Level 2 Pre-requisite: Completion of Level 1 Fundamentals, or Twinkler Piano Level 1 (previous Music Enrichment Program group piano program). Otherwise, permission from school administration is required.
